Steve Bruce sacked by Aston Villa

Aston Villa and Preston played out an extraordinary game on Tuesday night.

Aston Villa have sacked manager Steve Bruce, the club have announced.

Former English and European champions Villa were relegated from the Premier League in 2016.

"The process to appoint a new manager is under way", read a Villa statement.

Last night's 3-3 draw with Preston - in which a cabbage was thrown at Bruce - has left the Championship club 12th in the table with 15 points from 11 games, a far cry from the title challenge many expected.

'Cristiano Ronaldo Will Suffer In Italy'
Ronaldo , a five-time world footballer of the year, rejected the charges as "fake news" during a live chat on Instagram. In every game you want to score goals and we had some chances to do so.

Villa confirmed on their website that Bruce and his assistants Colin Calderwood, Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Gary Walsh were leaving their posts with immediate effect after having their contracts terminated.

Bruce took the club to last season's Championship play-off final but a disappointing start to this campaign has prompted the owners, who took charge last July, to make the change. "In the meantime, Kevin MacDonald, Aston Villa Under-23s manager, will be in charge of the team for our trip to Millwall on Saturday".

Both Martin and Michael O'Neill have been linked with Aston Villa job following the sacking of Steve Bruce on Wednesday.

Bruce has also been manager at Huddersfield Town, Wigan Athletic (twice), Crystal Palace, Birmingham City, Sunderland and Hull City.
