Rosmah charged with money-laundering tomorrow

The official says Rosmah Mansor was arrested by the anti-graft agency on Wednesday after it questioned her for a third time over alleged theft and money laundering at the fund.

"I can confirm that she will be charged tomorrow but I cannot confirm the number of charges", the source said.

Najib faces 32 charges, ranging from money laundering to abuse of power and criminal breach of trust in the effort to uncover how billions of dollars went missing from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Investigations into the alleged looting of state fund 1MDB by an audacious worldwide fraud ring have already seen her husband Najib Razak hit with more than two dozen charges including corruption and money laundering.

According to her lawyers, she was arrested at 3.20pm while giving her statement at its headquarters here.

The charges expected to be filed against Rosmah followed five months of intensive investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Anti-graft investigators spent almost 13 hours recording Rosmah's statement last week as part of their inquiry into 1MDB.

Rosmah, wearing a light green dress with matching headscarf, was met by her lawyers and escorted by anti-corruption officers into the agency's building. She was then called in again to have her statement recorded by the MACC on Sept 26.

The agency did not say if the charges against her related to 1MDB.

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, 93, who came back from retirement to challenge Najib, has launched a crackdown against corruption involving people in the previous government.
