Chicago Cubs vs. Colorado Rockies in NL Wild Card Game

In 14 1/3 innings of work in the 2017 playoffs, Lester allowed just three earned runs in 14 1/2 innings as he started a pair of games and appeared in relief in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Nationals at Wrigley Field. Terrance Gore tried to sell that he was hit by a pitch, but was sent back to the plate after a review confirmed the initial call.

Lester knows what he's talking about, though: Tuesday marked the 26th postseason outing of his 13-year career (22nd start), which is more than the entire Rockies roster combined. "We'll be leaning on him hard, we've got to score him some runs so he can settle in".

The Cubs beat Pittsburgh in a wild-card game in 2015 after a 97-win breakout regular season that established them championship contenders.

Anthony Rizzo grounded into a double-play with two on in the sixth, and they left the bases loaded in the seventh when Jason Heyward struck out.

Should the game be extended, Cole Hamels, Kyle Hendricks and Mike Montgomery also are available Tuesday night behind scheduled starter Jon Lester. That lasted one batter and a double play.

Tiebreakers to Decide NL Central, NL West
CHICAGO (AP) - Anthony Rizzo had four hits and scored three times, and Chicago set up a tiebreaker game for the NL Central title. Jesus Aguilar homered and drove in three runs, and host Milwaukee remained tie for first in the NL Central by pummeling Detroit.

The former Red Sox pitcher won two World Series' with the Red Sox and one with the Cubs in 2016.

Freeland, a 17-game victor for the Rockies this year, got the best of it for 6 2/3 scoreless innings.

Charlie Blackmon led off with a five-pitch walk.

Lester then limited the damage by striking out Story and Matt Holliday with LeMahieu on third. With two outs, he came on as a pinch runner and stole second.

"That's the last thing I thought he would actually throw me because the last thing he'd want to do is walk me", Gore said. "I think this will go down as a Major League Baseball classic".
