Amid Kavanaugh allegations, Trump says it is 'scary time' for young men

President Donald Trump said Brett Kavanaugh's testimony last week showed that the Supreme Court nominee had "a little bit of difficulty" with alcohol when he was younger, undercutting the judge's own portrayal of his drinking habits in high school and college.

The FBI is engaging in a weeklong probe into the claims against Kavanaugh. The one question I didn't ask is how about the last 20 years? "They have gone loco", he told supporters.

The news comes amid a controversial FBI investigation that aims to uncover more information revolving around the sexual assault allegations made by several women against Kavanaugh.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Trump found Kavanaugh's testimony "powerful, riveting and was honest", going on to note that the White House was confident he would soon be confirmed by the full Senate.

"Yes, we drank beer".

"If every American who drinks beer or every American who drank beer in high school is suddenly presumed guilty of sexual assault, it will be an ugly, new place in this country". "I liked beer. I still like beer", he said.

The New York Times also reported that Kavanaugh was questioned but not charged by police after a 1985 bar fight in New Haven, Connecticut where he was accused of throwing ice on a fellow patron.

Judge's interview started but "has not been completed", his attorney said in a statement quoted by Fox News.

48 percent of Americans believe Ford, while 41 percent of Americans believe Kavanaugh.

Ford testified that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a party in 1982 when they were high school students in Maryland. "With that being said, I would like to go quickly", he added.

"I learned because of Fred", Trump said.

"We don't want to go on a witch hunt, do we?" Jeff Flake, and gave the Federal Bureau of Investigation a week to investigate the sexual misconduct allegations.

Mitch McConnell, R- Ky., said, "we will shortly move to proceed to the Kavanaugh nomination", saying that he now had all 51 Republican senators in the chamber on board with proceeding, the magic number needed to confirm him to the Supreme Court without defections from across the aisle.

"The time for endless delay and obstruction has come to a close", McConnell said.

Although she asked Ford all of the questions posed by Republican senators, she asked Kavanaugh only two rounds of questions until GOP senators began speaking again.

Flake has said that his vote on the Senate floor is dependent on the FBI's findings.
