EPL: Manchester United players believe Mourinho will be sacked this week

France head coach Didier Deschamps has defended Paul Pogba, insisting the Manchester United midfielder is completely different to his media image.

But United want to give Mourinho more time to arrest the slump and believe that making a change during the season is also fraught with danger. He chose to keep walking rather than add more fuel to the fire threatening to scorch United's season.

Former United captain Gary Neville best summed up the malaise, tweeting that the first 45 minutes was "tough to watch".

Any watching Barcelona scouts would not have been impressed with Pogba's latest lacklustre display. United lacked ideas, looked confused defensively and once again fell woefully short of expectations.

It is hard to see how both player and manager can work together in the long term after such public displays of disunity.

The Red Devils resume their Champions League campaign on Tuesday against Valencia.

West Ham United won against Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday. Manuel Pellegrini's side were rarely in trouble and doubled their lead when Andriy Yarmolenko's shot looped in off Victor Lindelof in the 43rd minute. Zabaleta only goes for Marcus Rashford.

And to be fair, Spieth and Thomas have turned out to be an excellent team, going 3-1, accounting for half the US points. He fought tooth and nail at Le Golf National in an absorbing match against American superstar Thomas.

Speaking in an interview with Coral, Shearer said: "Jose has taken on his players before at Chelsea and we know how that ended, he was shown the door, and I think the same outcome will happen here".

"I just think they have actually become a very, very average team with a very negative manager". It just wasn't good enough from us.

As you'll see further down the page, the defender spotted a sign and left one young fan overjoyed by giving her a hug in addition to his shirt from the match. It's hard to take.

"But the problem is, I don't think Paul Pogba is on his own if he's voicing these types of things". It was very poor from us.

"We have to look at ourselves as players", said Shaw. "It is not a case of one player who makes the team win". The manager isn't on the pitch, is he? We had a very strong team.

For all that individual quality, United find themselves in 10th place after seven games.

Manchester City and Liverpool have a definable ethos and way of playing but United - for so long the standard bearers of swashbuckling forward play under Alex Ferguson - are painfully lacking in identity in Mourinho's third season at the club.
