You Are My Friend First Look Reveals Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers

From the cherry-red cardigan sweater to the bright blue sneakers to the crisp khakis, Hanks looks the spitting image of Rogers as he's depicted, perched on the entrance to a trailer.

Tentatively titled You Are My Friend, the film will be about Fred Rogers, the television personality who charmed millions of children in his four decades as host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

Hanks plays the iconic Fred Rogers in the upcoming biopic You Are My Friend which will be out in theaters next year.

The film, which hits theaters in October 2019, was originally reported to be tiled "Are You My Friend", but is now untitled. "Hero?", the film will concern the relationship between the writer (played by The Americans' Matthew Rhys) and Rogers, with the former learning along the way to let go of his cynicism in the face of his subject's unfailing kindness and altruism.

Rogers, who was the star of the much-loved long-running children's series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, died in 2003 at the age of 74.

Sony announced the Fred Rogers movie, You are My Friend, in January, and it's scheduled to come out in October 2019.

Hanks' pic is directed by Marielle Heller ("The Diary of a Teenage Girl") from a script by Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and produced by Youree Henley, Marc Turtletaub, and Peter Saraf. "I think that Tom Hanks can really bring that aspect of Fred out", Junod told Esquire earlier this year.

Chris Cooper and "This Is Us" star Susan Kelechi Watson also appear in the film.
