Apple, Salesforce teaming up on mobile apps for business + Deal highlights

Apple and Salesforce have announced a new partnership created to improve mobile apps for businesses.

The partnership comes as Apple continues pushing into the enterprise market, with Salesforce joining other vendor partners including Cisco, IBM, HP Inc.

Salesforce's tech conference "Dreamforce" scheduled to begin here Tuesday is billed as one of the largest tech conferences globally, bringing together a mix of thought leaders, innovators, partners and IT professionals. Salesforce will also launch a Salesforce Mobile SDK for iOS and optimized for Apple's Swift as well as developer courses on Trailhead.

"With the powerful combination of iPhone, iPad and iOS - the best hardware and software for business - together with native Salesforce apps and the new Salesforce SDK, we can deliver great customer experiences for businesses around the world", said Apple chief executive Tim Cook. With the new SDK, developers can build their own native apps that interact with Salesforce. Using the new SDK will allow business and developers to build apps on the Salesforce Lightning Platform.

Apple and Salesforce are also developing the first Salesforce Mobile SDK that is optimised for Swift, Apple's programming language.

The redesigned Salesforce Mobile App will add exclusive new features on iOS, including Siri Shortcuts integrated with Salesforce Einstein Voice. Both are expected in 2019, with the the redone Salesforce Mobile App coming early in the year, before the Trailhead app.

The initial focus areas of this strategic partnership include native Salesforce iOS apps for business. Apple's four software platforms - iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS - provide seamless experiences across all Apple devices and empower people with breakthrough services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay and iCloud.

Salesforce is also launching the first-ever version of its Trailhead online learning mobile app on iOS, allowing much smoother integration with iPhone and iPad devices. "We're changing the way people work, and that's always been at the heart of what Apple is about - changing things for the better". The partnership will help push Siri and Siri Shortcuts in customer support apps, as well as the apps consumers use for business, travel, and more.
