With a Tweet, Trump pours scorn on accuser’s story

Her husband, Mr Russell Ford, was quoted by the Post as saying the thought that Mr Brett Kavanaugh could be considered for the Supreme Court after Mr Trump took office troubled his wife so much that she considered moving as far away as New Zealand.

"She has agreed to move forward with a hearing even though the Committee has refused to subpoena Mark Judge", Blasey Ford's lawyers said, identifying the man Blasey Ford said was in the room when Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her, but who has denied the allegations. "This is a smear, plain and simple", Justice Kavanaugh said in a statement issued through the White House.

"This 35-year-old, uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear down a good man", said WH spokesperson Kerri Kupex.

USA lawmakers drew battle lines Sunday ahead of a dramatic showdown over the fate of Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, after a university professor who accuses the judge of sexual assault agreed to testify publicly in the Senate, reported AFP.

A former Yale classmate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Deborah Ramirez told Ronan Farrow of The New Yorker that he allegedly shoved his penis in her face while she was intoxicated.

Judge Kavanaugh has already released a statement denying the allegation.

Ford and Kavanaugh are set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday to address the allegations after a week of fraught public negotiations between Ford's attorneys and Senate Republicans.

The federal judge has calendars from the summer of 1982 he plans to share with senators showing he was out of town most of that time with no indication of the party of concern, The New York Times reported.

According to the publication, the allegations are now being investigated by at least two Democrats in the Senate.

In one instance, they allegedly supplied "multiple drugs to the victim" then raped her "while she was prevented from resisting". Grant Robicheaux and Cerissa Riley and said investigators believe there may be many more victims.

The Senate Judiciary Committee had delayed a vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation after California professor Christine Blasey Ford's allegations emerged last week, and her lawyers and committee staff were negotiating the conditions of her testimony.

Kavanaugh described Ford's claim as a "completely and totally false allegation", and insisted that he has "never done anything like what the accuser describes to her or to anyone". Republicans are well aware that, in the era of #MeToo, they can ill afford to look as if they are bullying a victim of sexual assault.

Among their list of requests, Ford's lawyers asked that the committee only allow senators to ask questions and that Ford be able to call other witnesses.

Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, called for an immediate postponement of Kavanaugh's confirmation proceedings in a letter to the committee's chairman, Iowa Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told "Fox News Sunday".

"Unless there's something more, no, I'm not going to ruin Judge Kavanaugh's life over this", Sen. The Senate Judiciary Committee's 11 Republicans - all men - have been seeking an outside female lawyer to interrogate Ford.

Before President Trump's nominee can be approved for the vacant seat on the U.S. top court, he has to be approved by the 20-person Senate Judiciary Committee and then the whole Senate.

The White House also sent a statement, supporting Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh's confirmation appears to turn mostly on the support or opposition of three Republican senators: Jeff Flake of Arizona, who is on the Judiciary panel that Republicans control 11-10; Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

Sources claim Kavanaugh has been practicing facing senators regarding the allegations by having aides question him from all angles.
