All of Ford's alleged witnesses of the party, both male and female, have now denied any recollection of attending such a party. The GOP has faced enormous pressure from its base of conservative leaders and voters to swiftly approve Mr Kavanaugh, who would become the second of Trump's nominees to sit on the nation's highest court.

Professor Christine Blasey Ford, who came forward last week, has agreed to be questioned publicly at a committee hearing on Thursday.

Kavanaugh's most recent refutation of the accusations uses his calendar from 1982 and its lack of a note regarding the party as evidence backing up his denial.

One of the authors behind the latest account into accusations against Kavanaugh, Jane Mayer, told "CBS This Morning" that at a "certain point.there's things people won't say to a reporter that they might feel they need to say to the Federal Bureau of Investigation". "She went into many details and at the end of our conversation I told her that I believed her and that it was important she tell me if, what she wished me to do with information, if in fact she chose another path. This came to the attention of people on the Hill independently and it's really cornered her into an awkward position", Farrow said.

Kavanaugh denies the women's allegations, calling Ramirez's claim "a smear, plain and simple".

Earlier on Saturday, a senior official at the White House said Ms Ford's requests amounted to "a clever way to push off the vote Monday without committing to appear Wednesday".

The potentially explosive hearing, set against a backdrop of the #MeToo movement fighting sexual harassment and assault, comes just weeks before November 6 congressional elections in which Democrats are trying to take control of Congress from Trump's fellow Republicans.

King said Ford's allegations were not credible because she could not remember exactly when or where the alleged assault took place. She says she is willing to testify, but she says she still wants negotiations.

Rep. Steve King fiercely defended Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh over the weekend at an Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event, saying that accusations that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a woman who went to high school with him amounted to "character assassination".

Committee staff has agreed to several additional requests from Ford and her attorneys.

She alleges Mr Kavanaugh exposed his genitals at a dormitory party and thrust them in her face, causing physical contact without consent.

The latest allegation comes as Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of assaulting her while they were both in high school, and Kavanaugh are expected to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
