Lions and Patriots nearly made an offseason trade for Gronkowski

It sounds as if Gronkowski killed off the trade attempt with threats to retire and an unwillingness to work with those inside the Lions organization.

Schefter reported on Sunday, hours before the Patriots and Lions kick off on Sunday Night Football, that the two teams almost completed a trade in the offseason that would've shipped Gronkowski to Detroit.

Rob Gronkowski with the Lions?

This all went down during the weekend of the draft - per Schefter the two clubs "were deep into trade discussions last offseason that peaked during the week of the draft, when the teams almost completed a blockbuster trade".

Updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs. 40 lakh
Its Direct Injection and multi-spark ignition can self-tune in milliseconds, to create more performance from less fuel. For those asking, the new C-Class is almost Rs 3 Lakhs cheaper than the outgoing model.

It is believed that Tom Brady encouraged Gronkowski's pressure tactic. The Patriots then called off any proposed trade with the Lions, leaving Detroit disappointed.

In March, Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal reported that the "chances were increasing" the Patriots would, in fact, trade Gronkowski. In turn, it was understood that Gronkowski wouldn't be dealt. He'll be looking to bounce back from an underwhelming performance against the Jaguars, who held him to two catches on four targets for 15 yards.

The Packers go on the road to face Gronkowski and the Patriots in November. He was removed from New England's injury report Friday after being limited in Wednesday's practice because of an ankle injury.
