Woman stabbed to death on evening jog one week after engagement

She was able to stumble in to a nearby Chinese restaurant in the Logan Circle area of the city, but was bleeding heavily from cuts to her neck.

An avid jogger who just became engaged was stabbed to death while out on a run in Washington, DC - in an attack that police say was likely random, according to reports.

It was then that Martinez was stabbed in what police believe was "more than likely" a random attack. While some ran away from the horrific scene, other patrons rushed to her side.

The security surveillance video also showed a possible suspect running from the scene holding what appeared to be a knife, police said.

Police released surveillance video Wednesday afternoon showing the suspect walking along 11th Street NW.

Martinez was taken to an area hospital, where she later died.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metro Police Chief Peter Newsham were scheduled to hold a press conference Thursday morning to offer an update on the investigation into the brutal killing of 35-year-old Wendy Martinez at the scene of the crime in the 1400 block of 11th Street Northwest.

Chief Newsham said police are searching for a black male wearing a mustard-colored shirt, dark sweat trousers rolled up to his ankle and white sandals with white socks.

Stunning late goal gives Liverpool dramatic Champions League victory over PSG
The triumph extended Liverpool's ideal start to the 2018-19 season, but Gomez warned against complacency. As a result, Firmino is in a race against the clock to be fit for Tuesday's massive game against PSG.

The chief said the suspect was last seen wearing a long-sleeve mustard-colored shirt, dark-colored sweatpants, white socks and light-colored sandals.

"We are deeply saddened by this senseless tragedy".

The young executive got engaged just last week to her fiance Daniel Hincapie.

"We ask that you respect our privacy as we grieve the passing of her lovely soul and inform her friends and family of this awful news", the victim's mother said in her statement.

"She was living the most handsome moment in her life; it was the happiest last seven days", Cora Martinez said. Her family described her as an avid runner. "Everything you hope that a daughter and a friend could be", her family said on September 19, NBC Washington reported.

Newsham said that Martinez's stabbing seemed to be random, but that incidents like this "sometimes happen in large cities".

Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Martinez's employer addressed news of her violent death in a tweet sent out on Wednesday. Wendy was an invaluable member of our team and a vibrant member of the community.
