Diego Simeone says he favours Neymar over Mbappe because of his workrate

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone says his team start the season "third" in La Liga, behing Barcelona and Real Madrid, to "be able to come first" and said that he never thought Antoine Griezmann would leave for Barça before delaring that Thibaut Courtois wold not get in his team.

Griezmann's team-mate Jan Oblak, meanwhile, is another Atleti star who has been snubbed for big individual prizes, missing out on the nominees for goalkeeper in the FIFPro World XI awards .

"I read that Mbappe is more powerful and quicker than him, but Griezmann is the pilot".

"I never want to say never, but it's very hard to have your kid in the dressing room, both for him and for the relationship. I always felt like he would stay".

The Argentinian said: "I hope that he (Oblak) renews [his contract]".

'Griezmann is world champion, European Supercup champion and Europa League champion.

After the sister and agent of Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone told Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport that it was only a matter of time before her brother would coach Inter, the man himself has confirmed it.

"He hasn't had an explanation - World Cup victor, Super Cup, Europa League, second in LaLiga, best player in the (World Cup) final", he stated. There's no explanation [why he's not on FIFA's The Best shortlist].

Simeone believes that, after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from his side's city rivals, the two teams from Madrid are much closer in terms of competing for honours.

Brazil star Neymar had his detractors at the World Cup following high-profile instances of theatrics, but the 26-year-old undoubtedly remains one of the best players on the planet.

"Obviously, it disappoints a little".
