Trump lashes ex-secretary of state John Kerry for Iran meetings

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday lambasted his predecessor, John Kerry, for meetings with Iranian officials in back-channel talks and accused him of "actively undermining" the Trump administration's policy towards Tehran. Especially since Kerry carefully deflected a question about whether he'd advised Zarif to "wait out" Trump's time in office.

"What Secretary Kerry has done is unseemly and unprecedented", Pompeo told a news conference on Friday, adding that he "ought not to engage in that kind of behavior". "He's the first president that I know of who spends more time reading his Twitter "likes" than his briefing books and the Constitution of the United States". He also said that he saw Mr Kerry in Munich earlier this year, along with former United States energy secretary Ernest Moniz and former USA negotiator Wendy Sherman, where he suspected they met Iranian officials.

The spokesperson cited Henry Kissinger, who served as secretary of state under Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, as having met "for decades with Russian Federation and China".

"I think I've seen him three or four times", Kerry said in an interview with Hugh Hewitt on Salem Radio in NY on Wednesday September 12, the radio anchor's website reported.

"Unfortunately, we have a president, literally, for whom the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is three different things, and you don't even know what they are", said Kerry. Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act?

"I don't have personal knowledge of those meetings, but, if that is happening, again, I would find it very inappropriate", said State Department official Manisha Singh.

Kerry, who is promoting his new book "Every Day is Extra", tweeted a response to Trump that referred to the president's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, who agreed on Friday to co-operate with the special counsel's investigation into Russian Federation interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible co-ordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

Kerry said that he has conducted sensitive diplomacy on his own with Iran, discussing the nuclear deal, from which President Donald Trump withdrew the USA earlier this year.

"I am confident that they met with their troika [Iranian] counterparts", he said.

Meetings between a private US citizen and foreign official are not against the law and not necessarily inappropriate or a violation of federal regulations. I've also seen reports that he is apparently providing, according to reports, advice to the Iranian government.

"The devil's always in the details", Rosenstein said.

"What did you do, John Kerry, that was BAD?" "Stay away from negotiations John, you are hurting your country!" A third is reported to have occurred at the United Nations headquarters, which is not technically on USA soil.

"What I have done is tried to elicit from him what Iran might be willing to do in order to change the dynamic in the Middle East for the better", Kerry said.
