Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri: I've decided our captain

John Terry spent last season playing for Steve Bruce at Aston Villa, and, amid rumours that the Birmingham club would happily welcome the former England captain back into the fold, Terry must now decide whether he is ready to call time on his playing career for the goal of rejoining Chelsea.

The Blues youngster was courted by a number of clubs throughout the summer but opted to seal a season-long loan move to Aston Villa in the closing stages of the window for EFL clubs.

Maurizio Sarri has said he has been warning his Chelsea players all week about the danger of dropping points after global breaks as they prepare to resume their Premier League campaign at home to Cardiff City on Saturday. For sure he would be a point of reference for me and everyone here I think. Cesc Fabregas is returning to full fitness but won't be ready to play this weekend.

John Terry is Chelsea's most successful captain, leading the Blues to 14 major trophies. At the moment he is able to be on the bench.

Chelsea’s Sarri tips Liverpool for title challenge
Chelsea are enjoying a delightful start to their new season in the Premier League under the stewardship of their new manager Maurizio Sarri .

Chelsea's ideal start to the season has led to suggestions they can challenge for the title after placing fifth last term, well adrift of champions Manchester City. "It will be a very hard game for everybody who plays Cardiff".

Interestingly, Jose Mourinho's tutored Manchester United have suffered two defeats in their first four matches, while Tottenham with three wins out of four suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Watford before the first global break of the season.

Asked whether the title is unrealistic, Sarri added: "I think so". If he wants to help us I am happy [for him to do so]. "I think this season is too soon, but I hope not".

"My feeling is that now we are not a very solid team in the defensive phase". Because, as I said before, I want to give space to the young players.
