Unai Emery reveals the truth behind relationship with Mesut Ozil

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil has been linked with a move away from the north London based club following a turbulent summer.

Ozil ended his global career after the World Cup, citing "racism and disrespect" over his Turkish roots.

Arsenal manager Emery said he enjoyed a "relaxing" three days with Ozil in training after the player's retirement from global football meant he did not depart with the Germany squad last week.

Arsenal have been handed an injury blow ahead of their trip to St James' Park to face Newcastle on Saturday after Lucas Torreira was injured on global duty.

Emery insists reports he has a frosty relationship with Ozil are absurd.

"I just have a feeling it might work this time". "I want to be demanding to prepare for this match - Mesut the same".

"Mesut, like other players, works very well here and [is] also working. together to improve things".

Meanwhile, Emery has been left guessing whether Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis - the man who identified him as Arsene Wenger's successor - will jump ship to join AC Milan.

Following talks over the global break, Emery claims the two are getting on and have a good working relationship. The 53-year-old was behind the appointment of Emery and also brought in Raul Sanllehi as head of football relations and Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment. The Nigerian global has had a positive start to the season and will be hoping to continue that on the weekend. "I want to push them", he said.
