Plane carrying body of Pakistani ex-PM Nawaz Sharif's wife reaches Lahore

Former premier Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retired) Safdar, who were serving sentences in Adiala jail, were released on a five day parole hours after the demise of the former first lady.

Kulsoom's funeral prayers will be held at the Sharif Medical City in Jati Umra neighbourhood at 5 pm (local time) today.

Maryam Nawaz also saw her grandmother and was seen weeping at most of the occasions as the relatives came to condole the death of her mother.

Funeral prayers were offered for Begum Kulsoom at London's Regent Park mosque on Thursday where hundreds showed up to pay their respects.

Her body will be brought back here and buried on Friday in the Jati Umra Lahore residence of the Sharif family.

MPA Hina Pervez Butt submitted a resolution in Punjab Assembly paying tribute to Kulsoom Nawaz, a three-time former first lady, who died on Tuesday.

Shehbaz Sharif, the deceased's brother-in-law and president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), along with Kulsoom's daughter Asma, grandson Zayd Hussain Sharif (Hussain Nawaz's son), and 11 other family members had accompanied the body from London to Lahore.

Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, Begum Kulsoom's sons, did not return to Pakistan for their mother's funeral.

Her body has been moved to a mortuary near the Regent Park mosque.

Kulsoom was diagnosed with lymphoma previous year, barely a month after Nawaz was removed from office by the Supreme Court, which ordered him to face trial in an anti-corruption court.

The funeral prayers were attended by her sons Hassan and Hussain, brother-in-law Shehbaz Sharif, former ministers Chaudhry Nisar and Ishaq Dar among others.

Video footage from Geo TV showed Sharif walking through Islamabad's airport amid tight security to be flown to the eastern city of Lahore, near the family home.

The party leader remarked that this should serve as a lesson for the people.

Nawaz Sharif met with the people visited him to condole. He had to intervene and submit the parole request on their behalf. The family is now meeting people in Jati Umra, who have come to pay homage to Begum Kulsoom.
