More To Blame Than Mary Jane As Musk Inhales Tesla's Woes

Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Monday night that Tesla would "simplify manufacturing" by removing Obsidian Black Metallic and Silver Metallic from the menu of colors as of Wednesday, possibly so it can catch up on missed production deadlines and fulfill orders already placed by consumers who want to drive its new electric sedan, the Model 3.

This isn't the first time Tesla has cut back on paint colors, they did the same thing last June.

CEO and co-founder Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that Tesla will no longer offer certain paint colors for its upcoming electric cars as the company intensifies its efforts to streamline and ramp up its production. "Obsidian Black & Metallic silver will still be available at special request, but at a higher price". Clearly, as added by experts, Tesla is still a greenhorn when it comes to mass production.

A Reuters report said Tesla now offered seven shades.

Shares of Tesla dropped more than 2% Tuesday in premarket trading after Nomura Instinet - formerly one of the company's most bullish supporters - downgraded the stock, saying the company was "no longer investable". A week later, shares plunged again after Musk said the go-private plan was abandoned, and they fell one more time last Friday when Musk was caught smoking marijuana on camera during an interview.

"We occasionally adjust pricing and available options to best reflect the value of our products and to streamline our manufacturing operations", a Tesla spokesperson told Reuters. The waiting list for a Model 3 is more than 400,000 strong, and some people have been waiting since March 2016.

The only forecast Tesla had given previously for the third quarter was that it would produce 50,000 to 55,000 Model 3s.

"Since I joined Tesla on August 6th, the level of public attention placed on the company, as well as the pace within the company, have exceeded my expectations", said a statement from Morton released by the company in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. If their Model 3 breaks down, so will their commute.

The $35,000 Model 3 will reach new customers for Tesla, some of whom won't own multiple vehicles.
