Manchester United striker, Romelu Lukaku, has provided a strong defence for his manager, Jose Mourinho, insisting he's unique in the Premier League.

Mourinho's press conference wasn't all fun and games as the Portuguese launched into another rant regarding his treatment of youngster Rashford.

A United source was quoted by the Sun, claiming that the striker would have a hard decision to make next summer.

"We have to remember that Harry Kane at that age had hardly played anywhere near the matches for Spurs", he added, emphasising that Rashford is yet to reach his full potential and will continue to improve.

"It's not my business to interfere with club managers, they have a hard job to do and they have big squads at the top six, huge competition for places, so Jose thinks the world of Marcus", Southgate said.

But if Rashford does start getting itchy feet, and wants more regular game-time, then Everton need to be at the front of the queue for the striker.

"A prodigious talent", former England striker Gary Lineker tweeted after Rashford scored England's goal with a cushioned volley in the 1-0 win over Switzerland in a friendly on Tuesday. "For me, I was delighted because we really wanted to make him feel important over this period anyway.

If I listen to players from back in the day and now, a manager can not say what he wants to a player because you feel attacked", he added. Possibly Everton is the sort of club you are looking at, just below the top six, for someone like Rashford, similar to what Lukaku did.

"Jose thinks the world of Marcus", he said. He's a huge admirer of him, but he has got his job to do.

"His confidence will be boosted I'm sure, two goals against top-quality opposition in both games".

United entered the global break with a 2-0 win against Burnley but will face unbeaten Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday in another hard test for the Red Devils.

Southgate, the England manager, has publicly backed Solanke, saying that he has "faith" in a player who has been "outstanding at every age level" and is frustrated that he is not now an option due to his lack of minutes.

Southgate believes there is much more to come from him, but his prospects are not helped by the bit-part role he continued to play at United.

There has been a lot of debate over the past few days about Rashford's development - and whether his career would be better served by a loan move.
