The rest only had minor injuries.

According to BBC News, at least seven people were injured.

The landslide occurred Thursday on the Navagio Beach, or Shipwreck Beach, on the northwestern coast of the island.

A video shot by an onlooker showed a huge slab of rock sliding off the 200-metre cliff face above Navagio beach and crashing onto the sand, narrowly missing two people below.

Josh O'Connell, 21, of Kilkenny, Ireland, who works for a tour company on Zante, said there were more than a dozen tourist boats in the bay and 400-500 people in the area.

He said: "I thought more was coming and I just started running".

The rock's weight drove waves on to the crowded beach, Mr O'Connell said, as families scrambled to safety.

"The water hit my feet with such force that it knocked me on to my back and covered over half of the beach".

"So far, we haven't found any trapped people but we will continue searching", a fire brigade official said.

While now, no one is missing, the coastguard called in helicopters and boats to search the area, in case anyone was trapped under the rocks. Rescue services employed sniffer dogs to search the beach itself for possible victims of the rockfall. She said they heard an "almighty cracking sound" as the sheet of rock crashed down onto the beach, flooding the busy beach and capsizing boats. It is surrounded by steep cliffs and can only be reached by boat but thousands of tourists each year make the journey to visit it.
