EC President calls on EU to flex global muscle as US retreats

The proposal, which still needs approval from European Union lawmakers and member states, would be a departure for the European Union, which until now has allowed online companies to a take a voluntary approach to battling extremist content. His term, however, saw many overlapping crises rattle the continent, leaving the Luxembourger to face challenges related to terrorism, the refugee crisis, climate change, and the Greek euro crisis.

"This is the stuff that needs to be done, and it will be all platforms in Europe, wherever they are based". He estimated that this new alliance would create as many 10 million jobs in the next five years alone.
