Jerome Boateng reveals what he told Jose Mourinho during summer phone call

Manager Jose Mourinho was desperate to sign a new centre-back in summer and the situation grew more desperate as the deadline loomed.

"As a fan, honestly, part of me is that no one is bigger than the club and I am not interested in people who are looking left and right".

Mourinho was adamant on bringing another centre-back to Old Trafford, with Harry Maguire also viewed as a target. However, despite being tempted by a new challenge, the defender explained that it wasn't easy for him to leave a club like Bayern Munich.

Jose Mourinho arrived back at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Wednesday fresh from watching football from the stands rather than the touchlines during the global break.

"I had enquiries from Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United, and I considered them", the former Manchester City defender told Bild.

But a deal was never completed between United and Bayern Munich.

"I did not want just to get away from Bayern, but I was thrilled to try a new challenge".

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester United are ready to launch a move for Paulo Dybala in the January transfer window.

"I explained to Jose that it's hard to leave Bayern, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club". It seems Mourinho tried his best to make a deal happen for the German global, but the German refused to join as everything was not in place at Old Trafford.

He also said he would be fined if he revealed what he really thought of Mourinho.

"That's not true. This summer, I quickly understood Tottenham wanted to keep me". But, his place in the Bianconeri's first-team setup seems to be in jeopardy for the first time in over three years following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.
