Hurricane Florence is a Category-4 storm that's headed for the US East Coast and predicted to start impacting SC and North Carolina as early as Thursday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Hurricane Center says it's now expected to hit Wilmington and then veer west, taking it south of Charlotte.

Residents are running out of time to evacuate before Hurricane Florence roars in to North and SC bringing potentially deadly flooding, officials warn.

Governor Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for the state of Georgia: "in light of the storm's forecasted southward track after making landfall".

On Wednesday morning, the storm was about 550 miles from the Carolina coast and remains a Category 4 storm with 130 mph winds.

But at 84-years-old, he's riding out Hurricane Florence at Knightdale High School with his 16-year-old dog, Precious, and other family.

"The state is mobilizing all available resources to ensure public safety", Deal said. Before Tuesday, he'd been debating whether or not he would stay in the coastal area ahead of the storm, but ultimately made a decision to flee after receiving an automated emergency call at around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
