As Trump fumes over leaks, Woodward pushes back on criticism

Mr Trump tweeted: "The Woodward book is a Joke - just another assault against me, in a barrage of assaults, using now disproven unnamed and anonymous sources".

Jonathan Karp, president and publisher of Simon & Schuster, said sales were "with the force of a cultural phenomenon", as Woodward continues a round of media appearances this week.

"I don't think there's any one author", he told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on "The Ingraham Angle". "You want to listen to everyone, you want to be patient, and then you want to go back, and then you want to get into their home", Woodward said, as the audience laughed. As a result, there is no discussion of why Trump replaced his national security advisor and secretary of state with more hawkish and virulently anti-Iran voices.

On Wednesday, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie accused former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon of being the "co-author" to journalist Bob Woodward's anti-Trump book, "Fear: Trump in the White House".

Cohn, who served as Trump's economic adviser before leaving over disagreements about trade policy, issued a similarly weak rebuttal to the book.

"If that individual is in meetings where national security is being discussed, or other important topics, and they are attempting to undermine the executive branch, that would certainly be problematic and something that the Department of Justice should look into", Sanders said in her first briefing since the editorial was published last week.

And Woodward, the victor of two Pulitzer prizes, said, "I'm not".

"The Woodward book is a scam", Trump tweeted on Friday. She claims to have had an affair with Trump in 2006.

The book portrays President Donald Trump as erratic and impetuous, and surrounded by a staff trying to restrain him from his worst instincts.

"The reporting is President Trump is disappointed with Bill Shine and the way the White House has responded to this new book". Woodward said when asked about situations involving former Trump lawyer John Dowd.

But can he say whether his current work will play a similar role in Trump's political future?

Woodward said Trump acknowledged some of the material he said would be in the book, but also denied "a great deal" of it. Cohn and Porter reportedly worked "steal" a letter from Trump's desk that would have pulled the USA out of its trade deal with South Korea and prevent further copies of the order from reaching him.

Charles reported that Barnes and Noble said "Fear" was its fastest-selling book since Harper Lee's 2015 novel "Go Set a Watchman", the long-awaited follow-up to "To Kill a Mockingbird".
