Rangers trading for Adam McQuaid is a little confusing

The New York Rangers have acquired defenceman Adam McQuaid from the Boston Bruins for defenceman Steven Kampfer and two draft picks.

He returned in mid-January and posted one goal and three assists with 62 PIM in 15:42 of average ice time while partnered primarily with Torey Krug or Matt Grzelcyk.

Over his nine-year National Hockey League career with the Bruins, McQuaid has played in 462 games, tallying 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 points. He was a member of the Bruins' Stanley Cup-winning team in 2011.

General Manager Don Sweeney was effusive in his praise for the lifelong Bruin.

The Boston Bruins have traded fan favorite and renowned tough guy Adam McQuaid to the New York Rangers. "10 years we've been together, going back to Providence", Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said.

But that's what they've said, and that's what's historical. "So our people, the MAGA people, they have to turn out". You have millions and millions of Americans who voted for this", he said when asked whether any laws were broken.

Just last season, McQuaid had just one goal, three assists, and 62 penalty minutes in 38 games played after returning from a broken right fibula suffered at the start of the season. "Today was a tough morning. we'll miss him".

Veteran forward Brad Marchand is one of them, gushing over the defenseman as a player and a person after the deal was made.

This is a return to the Bruins for the 29-year-old Kampfer, who made his National Hockey League debut with the team in 2010.

A native of Ann Arbor, MI, Kampfer has played in 166 career National Hockey League contests over five National Hockey League seasons with the Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers and Rangers.
