Luke Shaw 'in no rush to sign Manchester United contract'

Luke Shaw has returned to Manchester United for further assessment after losing consciousness following a bang to his head during England's match against Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.

The Manchester United left-back had started the season so well, seemingly putting his past injury and fitness issues behind him.

Shaw collided with Dani Carvajal while challenging for the ball before falling backwards and bouncing his head off the ground.

Only days before, Shaw had opened up on the horror story of his broken leg, which he admitted he was close to having amputated and forced him to consider retiring from the game at just 23 years old. The defender appeared to be wearing an oxygen mask as he was stabilized on a stretcher and then wheeled off the field.

Shaw will still likely miss United's Champions League opener at Young Boys on September 19 due to a lack of sharpness.

Everybody has got to play a part in that but the clubs own the player and they have got to do the right thing for themselves. I thought Dele's performance was good against Spain.

England manager, Gareth Southgate seemed reasonably happy with Shaw's condition immediately after the game. Good sign after what looked to be a very scary fall.

Speaking to reporters ahead of England's friendly with Switzerland, Southgate said: "All being well, he [Shaw] has a mandatory six- or seven-day period [of not playing following the concussion]".

"For certain, we won't take any chances with his health but the good news is he is awake, talking and seems reasonably fine".

The youngster has been in inspired form this campaign, and his good run at United earned him an England call up - two things that were seemingly impossible previous year.
