Keegan Bradley wins BMW Championship after epic Justin Rose choke

But he remains tied with Sir Nick Faldo with nine titles each as he was unable to match Keegan Bradley's par on the first play-off hole after both finished a shot clear of the field on 20 under par following the rain-delayed final round. While that was certainly possible - he missed three birdie putts inside of 15 feet, and made two bogeys after finding bunkers - it was a lot to ask on a miserable day.

"To get to world No 1 is unbelievable, and I can say now in my career I've been the best player in the world", said Rose afterwards.

Bradley was earning his first PGA Tour victory in six years. "I'd have loved to have got there by winning, but today was fun". Bradley, who shot a final round 6-under 64 to finish at 20-under 260, thrust his arms toward the grey sky and drizzle in celebration and waved his family toward him.

"I now have another string to the bow; if you're trying to sum up my career in three sentences - world number one would be right up there with the other achievements".

"I've played a few tournaments (this year) where I was close at the end", Woods said, whose missed opportunities to win this year include the Arnold Palmer Invitational, British Open and PGA Championship.

"I was in control of my own destiny and didn't have it this week, " said Spieth, who shot 73 on Monday at Aronimink Golf Club to tie for 54th. "It made me feel calm, which is rare".

The final round was played on Monday after persistent rain left the course unplayable on Sunday.

Tiger Woods, meanwhile was five shots behind after a 66 in the third round that didn't allow him to make up any ground on the lead.

For Spieth, it's more than just missing the Tour Championship for the first time. "And I don't think that would have been good enough". He fell out of the top 30 and will miss the Tour Championship for the first time. Players are also competing for part of a $9 million purse.

The most noteworthy player who didn't qualify for the Tour Champinoship is Jordan Spieth, who finished T-55 this week to finish 31st in the standings.
