In the decisive tie-break Murray and Mattek-Sands had lost 1-4, but managed to take six draws in a row.

Poland's Alicja Rosolska and Croatia's Nikola Mektić were on Saturday beaten in the final of the mixed doubles competition at the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament.

The 32-year-old Murray, brother of former Wimbledon and U.S. Open champion Andy Murray, played with Mattek-Sands for the first time in the tournament.

"It was a little emotional getting that win", said Mattek-Sands.

"I don't care what anyone tells you, you can do anything if you put your mind to it". We just match. It was an wonderful couple of weeks. "Go out there and choose your attitude, choose happiness every day, no matter what, and big things will happen". Going from not being able to get myself out of bed a year ago to winning this final.
