Paris knife attack leaves 7 wounded

Four of the injured were reported to be in a serious condition in hospital, according to French police.

The paper said the perpetrator stabbed three people near a cinema on the Bassin de la Villette, and men playing pétanque nearby attempted to stop the man, with one throwing a ball at him.

Parisian district police launched an investigation and have reassured the public they do not believe there is a terrorist motive behind the mass-stabbing, reports Le Monde. "At this stage there is nothing to indicate that it could be a terrorist attack", an unidentified police officer told BBC.

French police is on the scene where a man attacked and injured people with a knife in the streets of Paris.

Authorities are still trying to determine if the attacker, who was arrested, is among the seven injured.

There is no initial sign the attack was linked to terrorism.

The attacker, who was described as an Afghan national, went on to target other victims in the head and chest, Le Parisien reports.

That attack came days after an Afghan asylum-seeker was arrested in town of Perigueux for a drunken rampage with a knife in which four people were wounded, one seriously.
