The Israeli air force attacked Syria

The U.S. has reportedly urged Israel not to strike any Iranian targets in Iraq, according to Israeli media.

The Israeli satellite imaging company ImageSat International released satellite images of a destroyed site in Syria, south of the city of Masyaf, which seem to correspond with the location of a reported strike in Hama on Tuesday. His statement was later confirmed by a military spokeswoman.

"Israel is determined to prevent Iran and its proxies from establishing a military presence in Syria", Netanyahu said.

The Israeli military official did not comment directly on those reports on Tuesday, but said the army was aware of missile transfers from Iran to Iraq and then on to Syria.

The state agency stated that military air defenses were used to confront several rockets fired by Israeli planes near Hama.

Iran, Israel's arch foe, has been a core supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad throughout the seven-year-old war, sending military advisers as well as material and regional Shia armed groups that it backs.

Syrian state television said air defences downed five rockets.

"The enemy missiles were dealt with and some of them were shot down", SANA said. It also added that the Israeli military believed that providing weapons to the militants was "the right decision" as they sought to keep Hezbollah and Iran away from Israel's Golan Heights by such means. The Syrian regime denied the strikes had taken place, instead attributing the blast to an electrical fault.

In response to the news, on Monday, Israel signalled that it could attack suspected Iranian military assets in Iraq, stating it would not hesitate to contend with "any Iranian threat".

"We aren't limiting ourselves to Syria". Iran has been offering military advisory support to Syria at the request of the Damascus government, enabling its army to speed up its gains on various fronts against terror outfits.
