Senator John McCain has died

McCain disclosed in July 2017 that he had been diagnosed with a deadly form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. John McCain, tweeting his "deepest sympathies and respect" to the family of the senator after his death was announced on Saturday night.

His family had announced that Mr McCain, who left Washington in December, had chose to stop treatment on Friday.

GOP Senator John McCain has died after battling cancer for more than a year, an aide tells the Associated Press. With his father a US Navy submarine commander and his grandfather an admiral, McCain follows their footsteps into a military career.

ASU football head coach Herm Edwards spoke about McCain after the team's practice Saturday. As I said from the beginning, let ObamaCare implode, then deal.

McCain - born on on August 29, 1936 in the Panama Canal - served in the Navy until 1981 and quickly dove into politics. "Ann and I will miss him a great deal", Romney wrote. An icon. An American hero. McCain said. "Merely preventing your political opponents from doing what they want isn't the most inspiring work". "John McCain's sacrifice and the sacrifices made by all our POWs and MIAs must never be forgotten". "And I've lost one of my dearest friends and mentor". A source close to McCain who asked not to be identified said Friday the senator was at his Arizona ranch with his family.

The governor added that he hoped McCain's legacy would continue to inspire Americans to build a future that would make him proud. He earned a reputation as a party maverick by advocating campaign finance reform, lending his name to the bipartisan McCain-Feingold Act of 2002, and supporting overhauling the nation's immigration system over the years. From fighting for American values overseas as a U.S. Navy pilot and master of worldwide relations, to standing up for Arizona's rights here at home in the United States Senate, John was a maverick in the best sense of the word, often working across the aisle to fight for what he believed was best for our state and all Americans. McCain delivered the speech with a winning earnestness and subtle comic timing, proving once again that he understood the value of self-parody when it came to winning the hearts and minds of the American people.

Cohen's actions reflect a pattern of lies and dishonesty over a significant period of time ", Giuliani said in a statement. By Friday, the GoFundMe page, dubbed " Michael Cohen Truth Fund" had raised more than $149,000 from about 2,770 donations.

"He was a man of great courage and conviction".

Domestic politics is often said to stop at the water's edge: that is, while overseas, politicians don't criticise the governments or leaders of their home countries.

He would serve a total of six terms as a senator and was famously the Republican nominee for the Presidency of the United States in the 2008 election. Arizona is one of 36 states where Senate vacancies are handled this way, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Outside of his work, McCain was known for his love of the outdoors and commitment to his family. "But in this loss, and in this sorrow, I take comfort in this: John McCain, hero of the republic and to his little girl, wakes today to something more glorious than anything on this earth".

Senator McCain's sacrifice for his country was written on his body, a constant reminder to himself and those around him - of the seriousness of the enterprise of statecraft, be it pursued while wearing a suit or a uniform.
