Spanish company vows to defy USA sanctions against Iran

Iran's First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri said on Sunday that Tehran is looking for solutions to continue selling its crude oil after the United States re-imposed its sanctions on the country's energy sector in early November.

Iran urged Europe on Monday to speed up efforts to salvage a 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and major powers that U.S. President Donald Trump abandoned in May, saying French oil group Total has formally pulled out a major gas project.

Zarif said European governments had put forward proposals to maintain oil and banking ties.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Yavad Zarif has reiterated his country's refusal to renegotiate the nuclear agreement signed in 2015 between Tehran and six world powers.

"65 years ago today, the US overthrew the popularly elected democratic government of Dr. Mossadegh, restoring the dictatorship & subjugating Iranians for the next 25 years".

"Now an "Action Group" dreams of doing the same through pressure, misinformation and demagoguery".

Stuart Eizenstat, former US ambassador to the European Union, compares the Trump administration's re-imposed sanctions on Iran, to the ones he helped implement during the Iranian Revolution in the 1970's.

"Americans are imposing sanctions but they claim they are supporting freedom, human rights, and global and regional security", Larijani said. We want the United States to implement that nuclear deal.

The interview coincided with the 65th anniversary of the US-British coup d'état against Iran's Prime Minister, Mohamad Mosadeq.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that by engineering the coup, the USA and United Kingdom managed to subjugate Iran to decades of dictatorship.

'I think the US government is still thinking it is working with the government installed in Iran after the coup d'état on August 19, 1953, ' Zarif added.

Washington and Tehran have had no diplomatic relations since the shah's fall in 1979.

Decades of hostility eased somewhat with the 2015 nuclear deal signed by six world powers, including the U.S., and Iran.
