Djokovic into Cincinnati final, Federer in his way again

The elegant sport of Tennis has been dominated by either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal since the turn of the century.

Alexander Zverev of Germany remained in fourth, ahead of fifth-placed Kevin Anderson of South Africa.

Djokovic, who came up empty in five prior Cincinnati finals, defeated seven-time victor Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4 in the final. Alexander Zverev (Germany) 4,845 5.

Djokovic now holds a 24-22 all-time record against Federer - and that includes a stunning 12 wins from 18 meetings in finals.

Federer fought back in the second and he broke Djokovic in the second game but his opponent responded by breaking straight back.

Djokovic will head to NY with much confidence for the US Open, where he has won two of his 13 grand-slam titles.

With Djokovic ranked No. 10 in the world and Federer No. 2, the pair are never far from the final rounds in the various competitions.

Djokovic claimed the opening set in 37 minutes and came back from an early break in the second to overhaul his longtime rival as they played for the 46th time.

Djokovic did not win a set in either of those defeats but he took the first this time.

Djokovic saved five matches points to seal a 5-7 7-6 (13/11) 6-3 victory over Andy Murray, the man who had beaten him to clinch his first US Open title the previous month.
