Mothers insist that has not previously agreed to mass pregnancy, and called a "baby boom" is nothing more than a happy coincidence.

They all work at the ICU unit at Banner Desert Medical Centre in Mesa, outside Phoenix, Arizona, and admit to being surprised by the news themselves.

Mothers colleagues have already given vests with the inscription: "Relax, my mother is a nurse medical center Banner".

A group of no less than 16 nurses, all working in the hospital's ICU, got pregnant nearly at the same time.

"That's how I ended up finding out that everyone was pregnant", Packard said.

"I know a couple of us did fertility treatments", nurse Paige Packard said at a news conference Friday. "Did we have some kind of pact going I didn't know about?" The nurses, who are due between September and February, will go on maternity leave for 12 weeks.

The nurses also said patients have started to notice the growing bellies at the ICU.

"They're wondering what's in the water", said nurse Ashley Atkins.

Nurse Rochelle Sherman, who is almost eight months pregnant, said: "'I don't think we realised just how many of us were pregnant until we started a Facebook group".

Nurse Jolene Garrow described it as "one after another after another".

The nurses said everyone loves to go to the cafeteria together to satisfy the cravings of pregnancy.

There was a big surprise for the hospital's administration when the mysterious coincidence became known, but they are not anxious about the moment when the 16 nurses would be on the maternity leave.
