James Comey Contradicts Giuliani: ‘Truth Exists and Truth Matters’

It was the moment when the phrase was coined that might be said to sum up the spirit of the Trump era: "Truth isn't truth".

Giuliani told CNN in May that he'd take special offence if special counsel Robert Mueller's team, which is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election, went after Ivanka Trump, the president's oldest daughter.

The latest disastrous appearance for Donald Trump's personal lawyer came courtesy of Sunday morning's "Meet the Press". It was then that Giuliani argued, saying that truth isn't truth, blowing Todd's and Oliver's minds.

Mr Giuliani was explaining his concerns over pushing Mr Trump into an interview that he says could be a perjury trap.

"If you're just a genius, tell me what the truth is!"

"No, it isn't truth".

"She is a private citizen", Giuliani said.

President Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani acknowledged Sunday that the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between top Trump campaign staff and a Russian lawyer "was originally for the goal of getting information about [Hillary] Clinton". But surely the right claim is that his client is telling the truth, and Comey isn't.

The puzzling statement, however, reflected an ongoing theme in Giuliani's interviews in defense of Trump.

Trump compares Mueller probe to McCarthyism
He added Sunday in response to Trump's tweets that he doubts the president has "ANY IDEA what McGahn has told Mueller". Citing " a dozen current and former White House officials and others ", the NYT reports that Donald F.

It is noteworthy that all of these formulations are in defense of the President.

GIULIANI: No, no, no, let me finish.

This is not the first time that Mr Giuliani, a former New York City mayor, has spoken of irreconcilable accounts of the same event. "Trump says I didn't tell them, and the other guy says that he did say it".

"But men are, you know, disposable".

Giuliani, a former NY mayor, argued that Trump might be "trapped into perjury" if he testified.

When the definitive history of Donald Trump's presidency comes to be written, many years hence, 11.02am on Sunday 19 August 2018 will surely be granted a special mention.

Officially, the White House said former FBI director James Comey was sacked because of his handling of the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.

"The meeting was originally for the goal of getting information about Clinton", he said, adding that the Trump team didn't know that Natalia Veselnitskaya was Russian - even though emails later released by Trump Jr. show that she was described as a "Russian government attorney".

Anyone who thinks Rudy's "Truth isn't truth" is a gaff or misstatement isn't paying attention to the Trump defense strategy.
