Colorado man accused of killing pregnant wife, 2 daughters

After a friend stopped by to visit Shanann Watts on Monday and got no answer at the door, they were reported missing. Chris has been accused of strangling both of his daughters after he confessed to the crime on August 15 and their bodies along with Shanann's body were found stuffed in oil containers at his place of work.

"I love you so much and so grateful you hung around when I tried pushing you away in the beginning!"

The request by accused dad Chris Watts' public defender suggests that the two young victims, daughters Belle, 4, and Celeste, 3, had been strangled.

Autopsies were completed Friday on Shanann Watts, 34, and her daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste.

The couple had reportedly had marital stress, and Shanann and the daughters had recently spent six weeks in North Carolina with her family, arriving back in Colorado on August 7.

Chris and Shanann Watts filed for bankruptcy in June 2015, according to documents in the court record. Watts worked as an operator with the oil drilling company Anadarko.

They also had some student loans and medical bills for a total of $70,000 (£54,876) in unsecured claims on top of a sizeable mortgage.

Watts was arrested on three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of tampering with a human body, a Weld County District Court judge said Thursday.

In a disturbing interview conducted by ABC7 Denver, Chris Watts stood on his porch and discussed his missing wife and children (see video, below). "Then I met you!" she continued.

According to her Facebook page, Shanann Watts and her family had strong ties to Passaic County. A TV station, Denver 7, said Watts has confessed to the weird killings.

Chris Watts' lawyers asked that specific DNA testing be performed and that they be allowed to have a defense expert present for all scientific testing.

"This DNA can be retrieved with a double swab technique".

Defense attorney James Merson wrote in one of two motions obtained by 9Wants to Know that he'd spoken with a DNA expert, Richard Eikelenboom.

Shanann Watts' body was found on the property of a petroleum and natural gas exploration company, authorities said.

Weld County prosecutors said Watts was jailed in protective custody and that charges were expected to be filed on Monday. "I just want 30 seconds alone with that heartless psychopath".

"I walked in the house and - nothing", Chris Watts told KMGH.

"I just don't understand it", said friend Ashley Bell, who described Christopher Watts as a loving father. "She wasn't here. The kids weren't here".
