'An airline employee conducted an unauthorized takeoff without passengers at Sea-Tac; aircraft has crashed in south Puget Sound. Flames quickly erupted in the dense forests.

Brad Tilden, the CEO of Alaska Air Group, Horizon Air's parent company, said in a press conference that the employee who stole the plane worked a shift before the incident and was in uniform at the time. It normally carries 76 passengers.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, there was no indication that the incident was an act of terror.

"What are the options for improving we are not waiting, we expect a national level conversation, we expect the federal government may have some ideas for regulation", Gregoire said.

The man who stole the plane has been identified as a 29-year-old Washington resident. Later he said: "I've got a lot of people that care about me". An Alaska Air spokesman said he did not have information about how the incident occurred.

Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air's parent company, confirmed on Facebook that the plane was stolen at about 8 pm and subsequently crashed.

Alaska Air said the F-15s were scrambled from a Portland air base.

The plane was chased by military aircraft, witnesses said.

Russell flew for about an hour, talking periodically with air traffic controllers and making turns and even some aerobatic maneuvers as two armed F-15 jets followed him, officials said.

His first thought was that they were practising for an air show. "The wings are off, the fuselage is, I think, kind of positioned upside down".

Authorities say there is no connection to terrorism and they do not believe anyone else was on the plane.

"I'm going to do a barrel roll real quick ..."

NORAD said its fighter pilots did not fire upon the plane.

The sheriff said earlier that the employee was a airline mechanic, but the airline said he was a ground service agent.

At one point, Beebo did roll the plane, coming close to the water. "And then made his way down toward the island", he added.

"We saw the jets circle back after and she texted that there was no plane", she added. The man was in constant communication with the control tower. "I was hoping that was going to be it, ya know". When asked to land the plane, Rich said that he isn't now in the idea of landing the plane and he's not finished yet. "I wouldn't want to do that. They probably have anti-aircraft".

He told them, "Those guys will rough me up if I try and land there".

"I would like to apologise to each and every one of them. Never really knew it until now".
