Idris Elba may be next James Bond after Daniel Craig, producer hints

This is still some distance from a confirmation over who will replace Adam Clery lookalike Daniel Craig as James Bond, and release him from his own personal hell of being paid $25m dollars to play a spy. The news comes by way of The Daily Star, which reportedly caught Fuqua's comments about his conversation with Broccoli at the launch of his new app SoundFi, which supposedly provides "3D sound for movies" delivered through viewers' headphones.

Last August, Craig had revealed he would return to the iconic role one last time, having previously played Bond four times: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. Antoine said: "Idris could do it if he was in shape".

For starters, it seems a little odd that Fuqua is involved in this conversation, or that he discussed it at his new app's launch event. The latest round started when a report said The Equalizer II director talked to friend Barbara Broccoli about the Bond franchise, of which she is a producer. Will Elba want to play it as much as everyone else wants him to? "Happy New Year people", Elba wrote at the time.

There is no denying that Idris Elba isn't a brilliant actor and an incredible screen presence, and has all the tools to make an excellent James Bond.

The author denied this was a coded racist slur and explained: "Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better".
