Trump admits son met Russian to get dirt on Clinton

As Law&Crime reported before, recent reporting about the focuses of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation indicate that Trump would be wise to be more guarded about his tweets.

He claimed the meeting was "totally legal" - questionable - and asserted he "did not know about it!"

That misleading statement, which the White House later admitted was drafted with the president's help, said the Trump Tower meeting was about a law governing adoptions from Russian Federation rather than a meeting to get negative information about Clinton.

"If it's what you say I love it", Trump Jr. responded.

Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya speaks during an interview in Moscow, Nov. 8, 2016. Mueller is probing whether anyone connected with the president's campaign conspired with Russian Federation to tip the election in Trump's favor.

"Obstruction of justice by tweet is absurd", Sekulow declared.

Last July, Sekulow had said the president "didn't sign off on anything" in regards to the Trump Tower meeting.

Political campaigns routinely pursue opposition research on their opponents, but not with foreign representatives from a country viewed as an adversary. If true, Cohen's testimony would undermine repeated denials by Trump and his team that he knew nothing about the meeting until The New York Times asked him about it in July 2017. We can talk about all these questions of campaign finance law and possible defrauding of the United States.

Last year, shortly after Donald Trump Jr. released an email thread arranging the meeting, the president said it was a meeting "in order to get info on an opponent" and said there was nothing unusual about it. The statement does not mention that he was promised damaging information about Clinton.

Trump might as well have just confirmed The Post's report that he is anxious about what the meeting portends for his son.

Dozens shot across Chicago in spate of overnight violence
The youngest person wounded was an 11-year-old boy shot in the left leg on the West Side - also in the Lawndale neighborhood. People were shot while riding bicycles, attending funerals, taking part in block parties, and just standing outside.

Trump fired Comey in May 2017, several days after the then-FBI director told Congress that he could not comment on whether there was evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. He added that "No details or supporting information was provided or even offered".

A photo of the two middle-aged men wearing "Make America Great Again" hats and the gray tees went viral on Twitter, gathering more than 18,000 likes, 7,000 retweets and more than a few angry and questioning comments.

Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow repeatedly denied that the president was involved in drafting the statement.

That's essentially what happened when news of a 2016 Trump Tower meeting came out, when then-candidate Trump's son met with Russian nationals.

This was initially denied by Mr Trump's team, but his lawyers later confirmed that he had in fact dictated his son's statement.

From there, the case would end up bouncing around the courts, Sekulow said.

Trump Jr.'s testimony to Congress contained a similar defense as his father's Sunday tweet, indicating that he saw no reason not to accept a meeting that could yield important information about Clinton, even though he was told that it was part of an effort by the government of a hostile power.

He continued: "This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere".
