Stuart Broad takes two early wickets to give England hope at Edgbaston

Joe Root's 80 in the first innings against India continued his fine personal record at the ground - even after falling for 14 second time around, he still averages 66 from seven Test innings there.

"That was a fantastic performance to come into his second Test match under pressure, against the number one Test team in the world and play like that".

Talking about the enthralling battle over four days, Hussain said the game was a great advert for Test cricket.

"Stokesy's got that knack, hasn't he?"

"It was a fabulous team performance".

Writing about the game he loves the most- cricket drew him to tie up with Sportskeeda.

"Whenever he's been around, whenever you watch him operate on the field he has this desire and steeliness within him which, similar to Ben, wants to be involved in the big occasions and that obviously suits playing in Test match cricket and you've seen that throughout this game".

"So I'll have to sit down with the selection group and think clearly about what's the right squad for that surface at Lord's and then pick accordingly".

The equation was simple.

Ishant Sharma put England in trouble with three wickets in an over either side of lunch, on his way to figures of five for 51. But one wonders if India had themselves to blame for this defeat?

20 people killed after airplane crashes into Swiss Alps mountainside: authorities
It was flying a group of 17 Swiss nationals and a three-member family from Austria on a sightseeing tour for the company JU-AIR. Among those killed were 17 people from Switzerland and three people from an Austrian family, including a couple and their son.

And the hosts got off to the best possible start when Jimmy Anderson snared Dinesh Karthik.

Dawid Malan had an lbw scare against Ashwin, up the pitch and just outside the line on impact, only to go the same way to Shami when the seamer pinned him from round the wicket. That came after his four-wicket haul undermined India's first innings batting.

But England then found life tough.

Anderson and fellow new-ball partner Stuart Broad had been seen off by the Indians who were steadily reducing the target towards the 50-run mark.

India's skipper moved too far over and the ball rapped him on the pads. The skipper did check for DRS review but it went in England's favour. It was a bittersweet moment for the allrounder, who bowled magnificently in the match - taking six for 133 across it - but will miss out on the upcoming Lord's Test as he is due at Bristol Crown Court to stand trial, charged with affray. We need to think how to regroup and get back for the next match.

The all-rounder took the wickets of captain Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami in the same over before confirming England's victory by seeing Hardik Pandya caught at slip.

That is nine straight worldwide victories now at Fortress Edgbaston. The other subcontinent teams, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, have played eight and two Tests respectively without any victory. We felt if we took one, we were were going to get two or three.

"That is what the atmosphere is all about, this is why Test cricket is this special - it throws up so many things through the day and we did a good job in staying calm and kept believing in each other".

"There was always something in it for the bowlers, it wasn't freescoring at any time and credit has to go to both sides' bowling attacks". Shikhar Dhawan has had a struggle in overseas test matches and shouldn't have been picked in the team in the first place as he didn't score in both the innings against Essex prior to the first test match.
