‘Special to me:’ Tiger Woods reflects on last Bridgestone Invitational in Akron

Tiger Woods started this PGA TOUR season just hoping to make it to the end unscathed, but now the 79-time winner's expectations have turned to the Woods of old.

"This event has been very special to me over the years".

"It's always been one of my favourite courses on the entire tour and it's unfortunate it is leaving". He's won here as many times as I've won everywhere in my career. Three of his eight wins have come by seven strokes or more, and he's three-peated twice.

"I have some work to do", Matsuyama said.

Four-time Major victor McIlroy is hoping history repeats itself as Firestone Country Club plays host for the last time before the tournament moves to Memphis next year.

Tiger Woods shot an opening-round 66 on Thursday in search of his ninth win at Firestone.

Real Madrid have ‘offer in place’ for wantaway Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois
Chelsea are thought to be struggling to find a replacement, which is holding up Courtois' move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Therefore, it's hardly surprising that clubs like Real Madrid have continually had the 26-year-old on their radar .

This is Woods' 13th tournament of 2018, but it is the first time where he did not spend the week prior practicing; Woods stayed in Europe after The Open for a vacation and did not pick up a club again until Tuesday. "But I also had to play well to do it". I saw some of the people I've seen for over 15 years out here today, wish me good luck today and they were walking a few holes. Rory McIlroy is with defending champion Hideki Matsuyama. "I putted well. I was just trying to get my mind wrapped around how the ball was going to roll out". The most recent of those victories was also the last time Woods won a tournament, back in 2013. Justin Thomas and Phil Mickelson are teeing it up together, and Dustin Johnson and Open victor Francesco Molinari will play as a pairing as well. "Tiger has proved that with here, with Bay Hill, with Torrey Pines, with. well, actually, anywhere".

"I've got to manage that and really make sure I take it easy in my practice sessions and make sure I'm ready for the tournament rounds".

"When you go out on the course and you re playing with some of the best players in the world, you confront yourself with them", Molinari said.

"I would like to be able to finally finish it off; I've had a couple good results here", said Day, who owns two WGC titles but in the matchplay edition.

Thank you for signing up for the Top 3 Newsletter. Woods held the outright lead with eight holes to go at Carnoustie before a double-bogey/bogey stretch knocked him out of the top spot. "So he's going to be very, very comfortable here".
