Moto Z3 Force isn’t happening this year

I know not many people are excited for what Motorola is doing with their MotoMods but it is looking like a really solid way of implementing modularity. Moto Z3 can be bought for $20 per month for 24 months and Motorola is offering up to $300 off on the phone under its device payment plan.

Motorola unveiled its new phone, the Moto Z3, on Thursday at a press event at its headquarters in Chicago. Further, just like its predecessors, the phone comes with a 16-pin magnetic connector on the back to support Moto Mods. Even though the 5G compatibility sounds promising, the Moto Z3 today will be a hard sell considering the aged processor and the aggressive competition. Additionally, customers in the United States will also be able to avail the carrier-locked version of the Moto Z3 at a monthly charge of $20 for 24 months.

The good news is that while the Moto Z3 contains year-old hardware, it only costs $480. Besides Verizon will provide various offers for the buyers.

Moto Z3 has the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system, upgradable to Android P, and comes with a full HD 6-inch AMOLED display (1080 × 2160 pixels) along with a ratio of 18: 9 Max Vision and a protection for Gorilla glass 2.5D Corning. However, it eventually confirmed that no more Moto Z-Series models will debut this year. It's certainly an improvement over the Snapdragon 600-series CPU inside the Z3 Play, though won't be quite as fast as the Galaxy S9, OnePlus 6, or other leading Android devices. Inside, Qualcomm takes care of the horsepower with its Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of flash storage. That's because they must have the same overall shape so the Moto Mods can click on in the back. It is said to be the first 5G smartphone in the world. At the same time, we also saw a new kind of Moto Mod: one that would actually connect the smartphone to Verizon's 5G network. The 5G Moto Mod will be launched early next year. A mobile solution will follow in 2019, which is when that 5G Moto Mod will come in handy.

In addition to those next-generation radios, the new accessory carries a 2,000-mAh battery to offset potential increases in battery drain. In reality, the phone is 5G "upgradeable".

According to Motorola, development of support for 5G networks has been in development with the help of Qualcomm via that company's Snapdragon X50 modem. Since Motorola has gotten slower with updates, it may not happen until early 2019. And considering the bugs that are bound to accompany the 5G Mod when it's finally able to be purchases, it might be a while before they're all ironed out. But that's fixed, not mobile 5G.

Of course, the value of a 5G upgrade depends greatly on whether your city has access to a 5G network.
