Top General Warns US of Iran’s Harsh Response

Iranian President Hassan Rohani has said he feels no need to respond to what hecalled "empty threats" from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Threats by the United States will be met with an "unimaginable and regrettable" reaction, the head of Iran's armed forces said Tuesday, another escalation in the bellicose war of words between the two countries, according to a report.

Echoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's stances against the USA, the general recommended the United States not to play with the lion's tail, saying the bases and interests of the enemies, particularly the U.S., are within the reach of the Islamic Republic's "overt and covert power".

The country's foreign ministry warned the United States not to pressure other countries to stop importing Iranian oil.

Trump plans emergency aid to farmers affected by his tariffs
Some Republicans are jittery about the potential for political repercussions heading into the November midterm elections. Agricultural Committee Chairman Pat Roberts of Kansas says , "They would much prefer trade, rather than aid".

Rouhani was referencing Trump's all-caps tweet on Sunday in which he warned Iranian leadership that it would face "consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before" if it threatened the US again. "Iran, as the superior power in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, has always guaranteed security of shipping in the vital waterway and the global economy and enjoys the power to make any move (it desires) in this region", Baqeri reportedly said.

Araqchi, also a senior Iranian nuclear negotiator, did not elaborate on the possible steps Tehran would take to dampen the USA oil sanctions, but said blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for worldwide oil supplies, is not Iran's only option.

"It's time for Iran to shape up and show responsibility as a responsible nation", he added.

The Iranian official further said that the Iranian government has asked the ICJ for urgent action against unlawful return of USA sanctions, especially in the areas of health, medicine as well as air safety, and to order the United States to provisionally lift the sanctions and stop reinstating anymore sanctions while the trial is going on.
