Given below is this year's Booker longlist.

From a staggering 171 submissions-the highest number of titles put forward in the Man Booker Prizes 50 year history-13 novels, which capture facets of a world on the brink, have been longlisted for the 2018 edition of the much-coveted 50,000 pound literary award. Six longlisted writers were from Britain, three are from the United States and there are two each from Ireland and Canada. The prize money, 50,000 pound, is equivalent to about $65,000 and Drnaso is in the running against Pulitzer Prize finalist Richard Powers and previous Man Booker victor Michael Ondaatje.

The longlist for the Man Booker prize, the U.K's most prestigious literary award, was announced Monday, and for the first time ever it includes a graphic novel.

The prize confers a purse of £50,000 (US$65,606). "Some of those we have chosen for this longlist feel urgent and topical, others might have been admired and enjoyed in any year", Kwame Anthony Appiah, Chair of the 2018 judges, said in a statement. In addition, the list boasts of four debut novelists and four authors under 30.

Ramaphosa said trade figures had grown steadily between the two countries over the past few years, but bilateral trade had not yet reached its full potential.

"The graphic novel has increasingly become front and center in terms of storytelling [and] we felt [Sabrina] does just what good fiction should do".

The move was a bid to stamp the prize's authority as the English-speaking world's foremost literary award, crucially by opening it to U.S. writers.

The £50,000 prize longlist will be cropped to accomodate six in September shortlist before the final victor is announced on Tuesday 16, October 2018.

"In the week following the 2017 victor announcement", the foundation reports, "sales of [last year's winner] Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders increased by 1,227 percent". The rules have been changed this year to include books published in Ireland.

The Booker Prize ceremony will take place in London on October 16th 2018.
