Tape of Trump discussing hush money for alleged affair released

Mr Trump says later: "So, what do we got to pay for this? This is a man who knows a lot and a man who feels he's been hung out to try".

When Cohen begins to discuss financing, Trump interrupts him and asks, "What financing?"

Alan Dershowitz said on CNN that the release of the tape was the clearest indication that Cohen was going to "flip" and testify against the president.

With any other president, what we heard would probably be a big deal, but when heard through the filter of the bizarre-world Trump presidency, it sure seems, at least on its own, like a big nothing-burger. As she noted in her most recent Vanity Fair report, however, the fixer has no intention to "roll over and die".

The tapes, obtained and aired by CNN on Tuesday, confirm that the president knew about his lawyer's proposal to buy Karen McDougal's story - despite his insistence that Cohen acted on his own without his knowledge.

Last week, Giuliani said the recording would prove that "the President said it has to be done correctly and it has to be done by check".

Three players - including defending champion Jordan Spieth - are tied at the top of the leaderboard at 9-under par. McIlroy had struggled to make any headway but when he eagled the 14th he rocketed to the top of the leaderboard.

Disclosure of the recordings came in a Monday court filing by the retired judge who is deciding whether prosecutors may review the thousands of items seized in the raid.

Cohen's lawyer Lanny Davis says the tape shows Trump saying that they should pay in cash, to which Cohen responds, "no no".

"The president does bring up cash, but he said, 'Don't pay with cash'". A source has told Fox that no payment was ever made to McDougal.

Trump's lawyers waived attorney-client privilege for Trump regarding this recording. McDougal, who was Playmate of the Month in December 1997 and Playmate of the Year in 1998, alleges that she had a 10-month romantic affair with Trump in 2006.

Most legal analysts (including Alan Dershowitz) and pundits are saying there's not really any "there" to the tapes, at least from a legal perspective. It is far from clear that McDougal and adult-film actress Stormy Daniels are the only women Trump considered paying off. Mr Cohen is under criminal investigation by federal prosecutors. Investigators are looking into whether Cohen violated campaign-finance laws, engaged in illegal lobbying or committed bank fraud or wire fraud. The president has denied any inappropriate relationship with McDougal, or any knowledge of payments to her. McDougal sold her story as an exclusive to the National Enquirer in August, 2016 for $150,000, though the tabloid never published her story - effectively buying her silence.

Trump's former personal attorney and longtime confidante "has turned a corner in his life, and he's now dedicated to telling the truth to everyone", Davis said during an appearance Wednesday on ABC's "Good Morning America."
