At least 9 injured after shooting in busy Toronto neighbourhood

Witnesses tell CityNews that they heard up to 25 gunshots. Police have not said whether there were any fatalities in this shooting, but there have been some unconfirmed reports that one person has died.

Victims reportedly suffered "significant injuries".

Victims are being sent to local hospitals.

Police have formed a crime scene covering several blocks, local media reports.

Streets in the area have been closed while police and other emergency services respond to the incident.

Jody Steinhauer told CBC News she was with her family at Christina's restaurant on the Danforth when she heard a blast of gunfire, which she initially mistook for firecrackers. "We just ran", said John Tulloch, who was on Danforth Avenue for a nighttime walk with his brother at the time, to The Gobe and Mail.

The nine injured have been taken to hospital and more people are being treated at the scene.

Police are asking any witnesses to come forward with information.
