Missing Oregon woman found alive near Big Sur

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office announced via Twitter that authorities located Angela Hernandez, 23, of Portland, while responding to a report of a white Jeep with OR plates "over the cliff" off Highway 1.

Alone on the desolate shore for seven days, she survived by using her radiator hose to siphon water from a nearby stream, according to KGO-TV.

Hernandez was on a road trip from her home in Portland to visit her sister Isabel in Lancaster, Los Angeles County, when she crashed.

The day prior stayed at a Safeway parking lot in Half Moon Bay where she slept for the night. The department tweeted Friday evening to say that Hernandez was safe after she'd been reported missing some six days earlier. "She's a fighter and she fought this long and she will continue to". She was pulled up by ropes and taken to a hospital, he said, but her condition was not immediately known.

'My sister is alive, she's talking, and she's still trying to come to understand everything. A signal from her cell phone had last been detected last Saturday, but disappeared shortly thereafter.

"It's usually the fall that gets them, or the ocean that gets them, and she was lucky to survive both", he said.

Hernandez's sister thanked rescuers on her Facebook page.

"Angela was found about 200 feet down a cliff".

Two people walking in the area found her wrecked vehicle partially submerged and dialed 911, the sheriff's office said in a follow-up post on Facebook that included photos of the scene.

Ms Hernandez was conscious when she was discovered by Chad and Chelsea Moore, although she had sustained a shoulder injury.

Many expressed their disbelief about the whole ordeal, saying they would never wait for hours for a store promotion . It said the goal is to better control traffic at the stores and prevent long lines and significant wait times.
