Shaqiri on brink of sealing Liverpool switch

Liverpool FC have opened talks over a deal to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City this summer, according to reports in the British media.

And the Reds moved quickly to secure Shaqiri's services for a fee of around 13 million euros, putting him on a "long-term" contract.

An announcement confirming the winger's capture is expected to be made in the next 24 hours should he complete all formalities on a switch to Anfield.

In 92 games for Stoke, Shaqiri has 15 goals and 15 assists - eight goals and seven assists coming last season as Stoke suffered relegation.

Salah arrived after Shaqiri had departed, but the Egypt global will be a familiar face for the 26-year-old, as well as a rival for a place in the team.

At the World Cup, Shaqiri scored a 90th-minute victor to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Serbia in the group stage last month.

"I'm very happy for him that he had this attractive season because he is a very nice guy, a good guy". Today, Liverpool have completed the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri... It's a huge club with big history, big players and a fantastic coach (Jurgen Klopp).

'He has speed and ability, has the right amount of arrogance on the football pitch, real bravery to want the ball and influence things.

"I'm happy that I see him here. He gives us greater flexibility in how we can use our current players also", said Klopp. I'm happy that I see him here.

He came to train two or three times, I trained with him.

"I want to improve myself too, I want to be with the best and I want to win titles".
