Riyad Mahrez unconcerned by Manchester City competition: 'I never thought about that'

That's why I made the decision to come here because I want to be part of that.

City have Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva on the right flank and Leroy Sané on the other so the need for an extra wide player in not immediately obvious.

Speaking at his first news conference as a Man City player, Mahrez said: "I have always believed that "H" (Harry Maguire) is a very good player, he has shown that since the day he came to Leicester and the season he had previous year".

Mahrez has been one of the most consistent forwards in the Premier League in recent seasons, with his player-of-the-year winning performances in Leicester's stunning title success of 2015-16 particularly standing out. The Champions League is for big clubs, they're a big club.

"To be the record (signing), I don't think so much about this".

"I am happy to be here and I have to show it". City are a big club and have everything to try to win it.

The Foxes are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements after giving the green light for Mahrez to formalise his long awaited move Manchester City earlier this week.

Nadal braced for 'complex' Djokovic in 52nd meeting
The Spaniard will face Novak Djokovic in the last four for a chance to meet either John Isner or Kevin Anderson in the final. That blip was enough for Nadal, chasing an 18th Grand Slam title, to surrender his first set of the championships.

Reports on Friday have linked Maguire - who scored his first Three Lions goal in the win over Sweden - with a £50m move to Old Trafford. Now I'm here now and I'm happy.

"I haven't talked about my precise position with the manager yet, but City wanted me and that means a lot", Mahrez said.

"Pep is a big manager who has won a lot of things and made history at this club. Now we have to work and see what can happen".

Riyad Mahrez believes his former Leicester team-mate Harry Maguire has proved during the World Cup that he belongs at the highest level.

Centre-back Maguire could now also find himself a man in demand as a result of his eye-catching performances during England's run to the semi-finals in Russian Federation.

Finally, the Daily Mail were one of a number of outlets to pick up on a social media message from City and England's Kyle Walker. I wanted to work under him and to play in this club.
