Rescuers To Extract Final Five From Thai Cave Tuesday

Rescue operations have halted for the night and will restart on Tuesday.

On Sunday, divers held the first four boys close to bring them out, and each had to wear an oxygen mask to enable normal breathing, authorities said.

Saman Kunan, a 38-year-old former SEAL, died on July 5 while aiding in the perilous rescue mission.

Volunteers assisting in the rescue of a football team and their coach from a flooded cave in Thailand react as the last person is stretchered out.

The footballers still awaiting rescue are about two kilometers further in, at a point very hard to access.

Officials said they were thankful to Musk for his help but said there was no chance of using the mini sub to rescue the remaining boys.

He said rescuers would resume an operation to retrieve a remaining five people in about 20 hours' time.

Workers have been laboring around the clock to pump water out of the cave, and officials said Monday that despite heavy downpours overnight, water levels inside the cave did not rise. Tuesday's operation began just after 10am.

"Everyone is in high spirits and are happy to get out". On Tuesday, the final four boys and their coach were guided out of the cave.

The 8 boys who have already been taken from the cave by diver are thought to be largely healthy after their ordeal, despite having been trapped inside the cave with little food or water for more than two weeks.

Jesada said they were uncertain what type of infections the boys could face "because we have never experienced this kind of issue from a deep cave".

"The kids are footballers so they have high immune systems", Jesada said.

The second group of 4 that were pulled out afterwards are aged between 12 and 14.

The parents of first four boys can see them through a glass wall, but no physical contact is allowed.

Four other youngsters and their soccer coach are still inside.

Musk has been tweeting about the rescue mission for the last few days.

The Thai navy SEAL unit, which has been overseeing the rescue, confirmed on its Facebook page that the total number of boys brought out was eight.

The rescue missions take almost half a day to complete.

Thai authorities say four more boys were rescued Monday after having been trapped in a flooded cave for more than two weeks.

Musk posted videos and photos of divers testing out the submarine in a Los Angeles pool.

Thailand's prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha visited all eight boys in hospital.

"The boys were asking for bread with chocolate spread", Jedsada said, adding that the request was granted but they were kept away from spicy food.
