Chelsea sack coach Antonio Conte as Maurizio Sarri appointment looms

Conte is reported to have parted ways with Chelsea, with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri expected to be handed the reins at the club.

Antonio Conte was sacked by Chelsea for his alienation of several players and a complete breakdown in communication with the club's board, Sky sources have claimed. In the title-winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game Premier League season, as well as a club-record 13 consecutive league victories.

"I wish you every success in the future", he wrote.

Sarri will become the 12th manager to take over the reins at Chelsea since Roman Abramovich bought the London club in 2003.

Conte took preseason training this week at Chelsea's practice base in Cobham with players who hadn't featured at the World Cup, but reports emerged in the Italian media on Thursday saying Conte had been fired.

Terry - who brought the curtain down on his Chelsea career after that title triumph - paid tribute to Conte on Instagram. "Great man, Great manager".

The announcement follows news last week that the European Medicines Agency launched a recall and review of valsartan-containing drugs.

Conte leaves with the best win percentage 65.1% of any of Chelsea's managers in the Premier League era.

Conte has been on the verge of an exit since the closing stages of the 2017-18 season, but due to a multitude of reasons, the club have dallied in making it official.

After winning the title in his first season, where did it all go wrong for Antonio Conte?

But it seems Sarri has work to do when it comes to building his staff as according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, none of his backroom boys from Napoli are set to join him at Chelsea.

Napoli are also expecting compensation of around £4.5 million for Sarri, who is under contract even though he is no longer their coach.
